Wise Old Man – My Father
Some people can look at their fathers and say ”What an Idiot”, you have never done anything for me, never taught me anything, had no part of my life.
I’m one of the fortunate ones in this world. My father turns out, in spite of trying to not let it show,to be a wise, old man. He’s lived through so much anger, anguish, and pain, that it is painful to even think about it, not to mention, actually writing about it. He is highly intelligent, loved my mother more than life itself, has never, to this date loved or even spoken to another woman, even though my Mother has been gone for almost eleven years. He even feels guilty when he turns down some kind of pass from a woman of his age. It is somewhat humorous, but not really. In reality, it is touching and a great lesson to all of us in the younger generations who seem to be able to take a commitment so lightly that we will drop it on a whim, and run to the next person, or at the very least, away from what we have made a commitment to do.
This post is to honor my father, who knew always, what the word Husband meant, knew how to support a wife, knew to do WHATEVER IT TOOK to support his family, and to my knowledge, which is vast, never EVER regretted the sacrifices HE made. He KNEW without a shadow of a doubt what this song means, even though, I have NO doubt, he would hate the rock version of the song, which, as it turns out is the one I chose to do as my video.
So enjoy, where ever you are in your life, and try to look past the rock and roll and hear the words being spoken. You might learn something that took a 90 year old man to teach me.
