My Christmas Story

My daughter in law on her private page, told a wonderful story and asked this question, What was your favorite Christmas present as a child? I’m now asking my friends the same. Do you remember? Here is mine.

When I was a kid, we had a wonderful family tradition. We went, every year to my grandmothers house, usually for a few days, but for sure on Christmas Eve. She had a Christmas party every year on that night and all family was invited. There were always at least 75-100 people there, so it was quite noisy and crowded. Only the children got presents, but I will never forget the best preset of all. It was to all of us.

Every year about 9 pm, the adults would suddenly stop talking, and the children would gradually realize that it was quiet, and then we would hear sounds on the rooftop… walking, stomping sounds… My grandmother would be so surprised and “go to the door to see what was the matter”.. .. She would stick her head out of the front door, and suddenly turn around and say,

“Oh my, what are you doing out there in the cold? Come in this house”

And in front of our wondering eyes, would magically appear the most wonderful real life Santa Claus, red bag, beard, belly and all. He would laugh and talk to each one of us, and had in his bag a present for every child. Then while we were opening the presents, and not paying attention, he would step into the music room through the double doors, and disappear.

The gift was the magic of Christmas love, and family togetherness. It was and is the best Christmas present I ever got as a child or adult. I wish for you all the best Christmas this and every year.
